Concrete Masonry Design Guide for

Residential Construction

in High Wind Regions per ICC 600-20

Working Draft – Last Revised September 28, 2022
PREFACE
This Guide provides background information and expanded discussion on the use of the 2020 edition of ICC 600, Standard for Residential Construction in High Wind Regions, for the design and construction of concrete masonry structures within the scope of the ICC 600 standard. This guide is comprised of two parts formatted into separate columns:
  • The left side of this guide contains excerpts directly from the mandatory language requirements of ICC 600; and
  • The right side of this guide provides background, additional resources and information, examples, and advice on the application of the provisions of ICC 600.
The provisions and recommendations included are based upon the requirements of the 2021 edition of the International Residential Code (IRC), which in turn references the 2016 edition of TMS 402/602, Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures. If another building code or edition is applicable to the project, the user must verify and coordinate requirements as necessary.
